On Oct. 19, 2003 St. Joseph's Villa celebrated the facility's Eden Certification along with the unveiling of the new Eden Neighborhood. The Eden certification philosophy is designed to infuse spontaneity into the daily routine by bringing plants, children, animals, and an aviary into the home. The philosophy encourages residents to give as well as receive care.

The Eden Tree symbolizes the Villa's commitment to embracing a holistic philosophy that values the minds, bodies and spirits of the people who live and work here.

The new Eden "neighborhood" concept will assign a resident team leader and staff member to each neighborhood to provide activities to the residents. The new focus give residents additional opportunities to be involved in the planning of daily activities in their neighborhood. The new neighborhood concept helps to bring a more home like atmosphere to the villa. This important change helps residents continue to feel useful and gives them an important part to play in their daily life.
